Melissa H. Luckman was born and raised in New York, New York. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Long Island University in 2006 with PSI CHI Honors, and her Juris Doctor degree from Touro College’s Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 2010. Upon admission, Ms. Luckman became an associate at various firms, where she practiced in the areas of matrimonial, family custody, commercial litigation, trusts & estates, real estate, and civil defense litigation.
Currently, she is the Clinical Professor of Law and Director of the Touro Law Center Disaster Relief Clinic, which provides pro bono legal services to those affected by Superstorm Sandy. She is a nationally recognized expert in disaster recovery, and focuses her practice on insurance litigation, alternative dispute resolution and real estate transactions. She has served as a consultant to various local, state and federal government offices on disaster response and preparedness, specifically with regard to the re-authorization of the National Flood Insurance Program, as well as implementation of Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery programs. In addition, she is a member of the New York State Bar Association and American Bar Association Disaster Legal Services Team.
