Minnesota CLE Requirements

Is CLE Mandatory in Minnesota? The Minnesota State Bar requires attorneys admitted to practice to take 45 Continuing Legal Education Credits during their compliance period. More details can be found on this page.

What specific subject matters are required in Minnesota?

  • Minimum of three CLE credit hours of professional responsibilty and/or ethics
  • Two CLE credit hours required for elimination of bias courses

How many Marino Self-study CLE credits will satisfy Minnesota CLE requirements? You can get up to 15 of your CLE credit hours through Marino’s on-demand format.

What are the Minnesota Live CLE Requirements? 30 hours out of your required 45 hours must be live.

Is a Marino CLE bundle available for Minnesota? Marino plans to offer a Continuing Legal Education bundle for Minnesota so that you can satisfy your CLE requirements on your own schedule at your convenience anywhere you have a computer with internet access.

Is Marino responsible for verifying my participation? Marino’s prerecorded videos contain randomly embedded codes so we can verify your attendance.

Does Minnesota require attorneys to self-report their CLE attendance? Attorneys must report their own attendance either online through Minnesota State Bar’s OASIS system or through an Affidavit of Compliance.

What is the certification cycle length? Every three years

Minnesota CLE reporting deadline: 

  • August 31st of the year of your reporting period
  • The next filing deadline is August 31, 2019 for lawyers in Category 2.

What are the compliance groups? 

  • Category 1: July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2021; July 1, 2021 – June 30, 2024
  • Category 2: July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2019; July 1, 2019 – June 30, 2022
  • Category 3: July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2022; July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023
