Tennessee CLE Requirements

Is CLE Mandatory in Tennessee? Tennessee requires all of its attorneys to complete 15 hours of Continuing Legal Education credits annually. More details on these requirements can be found below.

What specific subject matters are required in Tennessee?

  • Three hours of ethics/professionalism required
  • An additional 12 hours of general continuing legal education are required

How many Marino Self-study CLE credits will satisfy Tennessee CLE requirements? You can get eight of your required CLE hours worth of distance learning for the year through Marino’s online courses.

What are the Tennessee Live CLE Requirements? Seven CLE credit hours per year must be live. The rest of your CLE hours can be distance learning through Marino anywhere you have a computer with an internet connection. 

Is a Marino CLE bundle available for Tennessee? In the future, Marino plans to offer Continuing Legal Education courses for Tennessee so that you can get your CLE hours quickly and conveniently from wherever you are.

Is Marino responsible for verifying my participation? Since Tennessee is a self-reporting state, attorneys are responsible for reporting their individual participation in Marino’s programs.

What special CLE requirements are newly admitted attorneys held to? Tennessee awards new attorneys up to 12 hours of general CLE credit and up to three hours of Ethics CLE credit for passing the bar of any state. This credit will satisfy the CLE requirements for the year in which they were admitted.

Does Tennessee require attorneys to self-report their CLE attendance? Since Tennessee is a self-reporting state, you are responsible for reporting your individual participation in Marino’s programs.

What is the new CLE guidance for Tennessee? As of April, 2019, the Tennessee Supreme Court approved significant amendments to Rule 21 which governs CLE requirements. You can view the changes to Rule 21 here.
