Continuing Legal Education (CLE, or sometimes MCLE for “Mandatory CLE”) is required in most US states and territories to keep your bar membership active and in good standing.

Some state bars require attorneys to attend live events, while other states permit members to fulfill CLE requirements entirely through self-study.

Certain states allow reciprocity with neighboring states (see Connecticut CLE for example).

Compliance cycles are another area where states differ. California is on a three year compliance cycle, whereas New York is every two years.
